No Need to Please the Vegetarians

Lemony Roasted Brussel Sprouts from Big2Beautiful

But Carrie, you are a vegetarian…whatever are you talking about?  Well, yes I am a vegetarian, and I am here to speak on behalf of vegetarians everywhere, and will make the job of the cooks much easier this year.  In the spirit of giving and giving thanks…Please, do not give me a tofurkey, please don’t.  Don’t try to make something I would never, any other day of the year eat, just so you can point to it and condescendingly say, “Omigod…Can you believe she eats that?!  Ew!!”  No, no, no…I am here to let all you turkey gobblin’ peeps off the hook.

Now every year someone inevitably asks “What are you going to eat?”  My father in law, who has since passed, once asked (insert Jamaican accent) “Whatcha gon eat Carrie, wet newspapa?”  Ok, now I may have deserved that, I was vegan at the time, I just smiled as I took my seat and poured another glass of wine.  This year no wet newspaper, no nut loaf, no factory-produced, chemically-treated, plasticine, faux meats.  Just gimme a plate filled with mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, sweet potato pie, green beans, cranberry sauce and my mother-in-law’s famous mac n’ cheese.  That is all I need and I will be very thankful.  Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody.  Have a great weekend.

ps. it would be great if you could just use vegetable stock?  pretty please??  thanks!

If you have some free time listen to The Sporkful talk about vegetarian Thanksgiving here and check out their blog here - it’s not for foodies, it’s for eaters!
